INSTALL FLEXIBLE SOLAR PANEL on RV with NO DRILLING

SET UP FLEXIBLE PHOTOVOLTAIC PANEL on Recreational Vehicle without any BORING

Hey guys in a previous video, I showed you what my preferred method was for mounting flexible solar panel to the roof of my RV and it involved drilling holes into the roof and using screws to hold it down.

And I realized that some people really weren’t comfortable drilling holes into the roof of their RV. So I wanted to show an alternative approach that didn’t require any drilling or any screws, and I did that using eterna bond tape and I’m, went ahead and mounted this panel here and I’ll.

Show you how I did that, Oh now, once I had the panel laid out exactly where I wanted it on the roof, I used a little bit of velcro to kind of stick it right in the middle of the back of the panel, and it was just More to anchor the center to the roof, so I wouldn’t move now I could have used a double-sided mounting tape, but I & # 39.

Ve got a lot of velcro on hand, so I went ahead and used that I, like velcro next, with the solar panel in place, I went ahead and started cutting out sections of the Turner bond tape that would cover the outer edges of the solar panel.

Now made sure to cut around the junction box, because I didn’t want that to be covered by the aterna bond tape. Now it’s, important that when you do this, don’t remove the sticky back from the tape yet because you just want just cutting sections too to get the right size and length now once it had all the sections of the Tape cut, it was time to start actually sticking it down to the roof and the solar panel.

So I started with the the back piece of tape that faced the back of the RV, where the junction box was now to apply the tape. What you want to do is just peel off just the first part of the Turner bond tape, maybe down to a couple inches and one end and get that stuck down and then once you have it laid out, you can simply just slowly remove the sticky back From the back of the tape and pull it all the way to the end, making sure that the tape is lined up the way you want it along the way and then once you have it down, go ahead and apply some pressure and get all the air Bubbles worked out of the tape and make sure it’s, nice and solid and stuck really well down to the the roof.

Finally, I had some cables to run to hook it up to the other panels and it was about a 10 foot run of cable, so, instead of drilling holes again, I thought I’d. Try something else, and I went ahead and used these these little mounting bases for wiring that have a sticky back on them.

So using this in conjunction with some of the dura bond. So I cut out a square of dura bond and I used it to to place along the cable run, where I would run it all the way back to the section of connections where I would tie it into the rest of the solar panels.

This approach seemed to work pretty well, it’s down there pretty solid and the nice thing about it is that I can still remove the zip ties that I hook in there and put in more wires if I ever need to or replace things.

So it’s still accessible and it’s, a nice mounting point for other things in the future, so that’s, really it. This is Stahl was really easy and really quick and I think aesthetically. It looks really good.

It really looks like the panel just kind of blends with it with the roof of the RV, and I went ahead and installed this at home and I’ve, driven, probably 1,500 miles so far with this setup through wind rain storms and it’s held up just like it was, it looks just like it was when I installed it so pretty solid way to install, and you might be thinking why didn’t.

You do this the first time with the other panels and the reason was I wasn’t sure if I’d, be replacing the other panels eventually, so I I feel more comfortable, removing screws and and the and the die core that I used on the other panels.

A my concern with the eternal bond was that it would just be too good and I would have more trouble trying to remove it if I needed to, but I’ll tackle that in a future project.
